Destination: Lake Eufaula

The largest lake in Oklahoma, Lake Eufaula is also one of Oklahoma’s most spectacular natural areas. Covering 105,500 surface acres and boasting 800 miles of shoreline, there’s almost no end when you’re exploring the waters or walking the shore.

If you want to explore the waters, you’re in luck: there are dozens of marinas and rental places dotting the coast, so you don’t even have to drag your own boat out with you. Rental options include houseboats, pontoon boats, ski boats, and paddle boats. The marinas usually, and conveniently, offer accessories and groceries, so they can serve as one-stop-shops for all of your boating aspirations on Lake Eufaula.

Whether you bring a boat or rent one, access to the lake is easy with numerous boat ramps located around the lake. The lake is perfect for water sports, including water skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing.

Fishing is also abundant on the lake and can be done year-round. Some marinas even feature heated, fully-enclosed docks for ultimate fishing comfort even on the coldest of days. Fishers can expect a chance to catch white bass, catfish, crappie, and stripers.

If you turn your sights back to the shore, you can plan day hikes along the numerous trails that run parallel to the shore of Lake Eufaula. Many species call Lake Eufaula home and are readily spotted on a daily basis. The trails are open to hikers and some are even open to horseback riding or ATVs.

If you’re a hunter, there are 31,800 acres of public hunting around the lake, where deer, quail, geese, and ducks can all be found.

Two campgrounds, Arrowhead Area and the eponymous Lake Eufaula State Park campground offer 18-hole golf courses if you want to change things up a bit and get away from the lake and hiking trails.
