Quanah Parker Lake

Looking for a different kind of campground? How about one where free-range buffalo and elk roam freely? Imagine pitching a tent or hooking up your travel trailer outdoors near deer that are foraging. Climb the mountains nearby and overlook the lush landscaping and herds that idle by. This is all possible at the Doris Campground which is located along the Quanah Parker Lake within the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. This is a modern campsite and is home to a variety of wildlife.

There is a wide selection of campsites to choose from. Whether you need a single unit, with or without electricity and water, or a more primitive campsite, there will be a place for you. All sites include the basic fire ring with grate and a table. Prices are $20 for full hook-ups and only $10 for basic. Leashed pets are always welcome!

The Wildlife Refuge was created in order to protect species that were endanger of extinction. It was established in 1901 and is one of 556 refuges in the United States. The refuge holds over 59,000 acres and hosts a rare piece of history- a mixed grass prairie island that escaped destruction due to the rocks underfoot that defeated the plow. Approximately 20,000 acres are open mixed grass plains with the rest being rock outcroppings and forest. More than 50 mammal, 240 bird and over 800 plant species as well as 100 other species are thriving here.

The outdoor activities to partake in are many. From mountain biking to rock climbing, there are several things to fill the long hours of summer. Of course, you don’t have to own a travel trailer to visit this park. But if you find yourself without one and needing one, come visit your Oklahoma RV dealer and check out our great selections!
