Halloween Decorating Ideas for RVs

Just because you may be on the road during Halloween doesn’t mean you have to miss out on some of the fun. Part of the RV lifestyle is enjoying the holidays no matter where you are. If you are an Oklahoma RV owner, your Halloween plans don’t have to be elaborate to be enjoyable. Here are some ideas to make Halloween in your RV a memorable one.

Carve a pumpkin. Even if you haven’t done it for years, carving a pumpkin can be a lot of fun. It will bring back a flood of memories. Use a battery-powered light or glow stick inside to give it a spooky glow. You can even clean and boil the seeds in very salty water, and then dry them out for a savory snack. If you don’t want to go as far as carving a pumpkin, at least buy a few small ones for decorations in and around your RV. Pumpkins are an inexpensive way to add to the “spirit” of the holiday.

Buy some Halloween lights. You can find Halloween orange party lights at party and department stores. These can be strung around the awning of your RV or even around the edge. Use them around your pad or even on any nearby trees or shrubs. Halloween lights can add a festival and slightly spooky effect to the fall evenings.

Use Halloween colored items. Dollar type stores have a variety of items like table clothes, utensils, paper plates and cups in a variety of colors, including orange and black. They will even have items specifically designed for the holiday. These dollar stores can be a great resource for Halloween decorations on the cheap side.

Use Cornstalks and Indian corn. Many farmers’ markets will have dried corn and cornstalks available that you can easily turn into fall decorations.

Make a ghost or two. Pillow cases can make good small ghosts. Put a small pumpkin or other small round object in the pillow case to serve as the head. Use string to secure the pumpkin “head” inside the bottom of the pillow case. You can hang it from the top or give it a flying appearance by attaching both ends horizontally. Use a sheet and a larger round object if you want something more substantial.

Decorating can be a big part of Halloween in an RV. You can also find out if your campground has a trick or treat evening planned for the kids, or fall dance, or even some sort of spooky attraction nearby. Have a safe Halloween from all of us at Leisure Time RV!

The screwed-and-glued cabinetry in the Work and Play 18EC comes in either a lighter cherry finish or a blackish-grey finish. The dinette sits across from the reefer and flips up, giving you plenty of cargo area for hauling those toys or other big items. Think and Chunky Spaghetti Sauce

New Oklahoma RV

Many of us who love the RV lifestyle love to cook and keep our menus fresh and interesting. Sometimes it is not a matter of re-inventing the wheel, but just putting a new twist on an old standard.

Leisure Time RV, your Oklahoma RV Dealership, offers you this recipe that will add a little more spice and texture to your spaghetti dinner. It is our recipe for Chunky Vegetable Beef or Turkey Spaghetti Sauce that is perfect for fall RVing.

The ingredients you will need include:

1 lb. of your choice of ground beef or ground turkey

1 large onion

1 large green pepper

6 baby Bella mushrooms

1 medium carrot

1 medium celery stalk

2 tablespoons of crushed red pepper flakes

1-24 oz. jar of your favorite marinara sauce

Cut the onions into about ½ inch slices and cut into about ½ inch chunks. Cut the green pepper into ½ inch squares. Cut the mushrooms into 4 pieces each. Slice the carrot and celery stalk into thin slices.

In a large skillet brown the ground beef or turkey. As the beef or turkey begins to lose its pink color, add the cut chunks of onion and green pepper, along with the slices of carrot and celery. Stir in and cook for about 8 minutes until the vegetables begin to show signs of clearing. Add the chunks of mushrooms and cook for 3 or 4 more minutes, continuing to occasionally stir. Sprinkle in the crushed red pepper flakes and add in the marinara sauce. Stir until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed and the sauce begins to boil.

Serve this thick and chunky sauce over your favorite pasta, and top with some shredded mozzarella or parmesan cheese. Add a side salad and some garlic bread and you will have a hearty meal for 4 or more. If you want a vegetarian edition, simply eliminate the beef or turkey.

Do you have a favorite hearty recipe for fall? Be sure to tell us about it. We are Leisure Time RV, your Oklahoma City RV dealer, and we will be pleased to show you our full line of 2014 RV’s that we now have in stock. For parts, service and new and used RV sales, see us at Leisure Time RV.

How Does Using an RV Compare to Tent Camping?

Photo Courtesy of Grand Canyon National Park

If you are considering making a big investment in a top of the line model from Leisure Time RV, you may be wondering exactly why a camper is worth the cost. If you are a dedicated outdoors enthusiast, you may find tent camping fairly comfortable with the right equipment. However, it will only take one experience with RV camping to understand how this type of travel really stands out when it comes to comfort and luxury.

The Feeling Of Home

For many people, even the best air mattress leaves them feeling achy and sore. Spending a day canoeing around a lake or climbing a steep trail makes the soft and welcoming mattress of an RV very inviting and refreshing. There is no need to struggle with flimsy camp cook stoves for dinner or the hassle of going without a proper bathroom facility.

Traveling With Mobility Or Health Issues

RVs also stand out as the best option for people who are confined to a wheelchair or need medical support at night. Relying on an oxygen tank or a CPAP machine doesn’t have to stop you from seeing the country’s best sights in person. Make the most of your travel experiences without having to push yourself too hard. A whole range of upgrades are available for campers to keep them accessible for people with all levels of mobility.

Get As Close To Nature As You Like

Many camping lovers are afraid to switch to RVs because they enjoy the deep connection with nature that they feel when sleeping in a tent. However, using a camper doesn’t mean you can’t spend all of your time outdoors. Even a small fifth wheel serves as an ideal mobile kitchen and bathroom facility. Pop up a tent right beside the RV and stay outside if you like, but you will be glad to have the space available if a sudden storm arises or a bear visits camp.

Comfort For Pets and Children

Finally, many Oklahoma residents choose RVs to make travel easier on their youngest or smallest family members. You can easily travel with dogs, cats, or even parrots when you have enough space to keep them happy. Kids also enjoy being able to retreat into a controlled space during early camping experiences.

It’s the time of year for camping out and racing. So why not do both? There are several racetracks during the NASCAR races that offer places to park your camper. If you’re a fan but never have been able to make it to a race, it can be a dream come true. But here are some helpful and friendly tips and advice to get your racing trip off on the right start this season.

There are 3 main factors you must remember before going to a race. Tickets, traveling and lodging. Make sure you have a ticket to get in before deciding to go. Sometimes you can get lucky and they will sell some at the gate. Some races sell out for a certain race years in advance. Know before you go.

It’s also important to know how you will get there. Obviously, here we are talking about traveling in your motorhome. But will you have another means of transportation once you are there? Or will you be content with your RV and have everything you need on site? Make sure you know you will be able to camp at the racetrack. As mentioned before, some of the big races sell out quickly as do the campsites. Either call or visit their websites to view openings and make a reservation.

The website at nascarthreesixty.com has a lot of good tips and pointers as well. They even have a printable checklist so you won’t forget anything for your trip. If planned correctly, you will have an amazing time with no issues. Isn’t that what we all aim for on a vacation or planned outing?

Of course, if you find that you need any part, service or accessories for your trip, stop by your local Oklahoma City RV dealer. Check out our huge selection of inventory as well.

Extra Space Project

Everyone loves feeling like they have more space. Sometimes it is difficult to get that much-needed open feel that an RV lacks. These simple do-it-yourself ideas are great ways to make your RV feel more spacious.

Simple changes in your camper’s lighting can have a giant impact on how big your space will look. Use natural light whenever possible. Natural lighting can be your RV’s best friend. Get rid of old blinds or curtains that block sunlight. Replace dark curtains with sheer ones that provide a visually pleasing look while still giving you that natural sunlight. Doing this alone will make your space look larger and feel more open without having to spend a lot of money. Also, clean all of your windows thoroughly and replace any that might be tinted or yellowed from age. Try hanging lights from the ceiling. This will keep your space illuminated without taking up valuable space. Overhead lights are perfect for RVs since they free up a lot of space typically taken up by floor lamps.

Mirrors can make your space look larger. Give the idea of depth by using a focal point and turning your mirror towards it, this. Mirrors also reflect natural and artificial light to make a space feel brighter during the day as well as at night. Try placing a mirror near a window in your camper to reflect the outdoors. You will be amazed just how effective this can be.

Avoid the clutter! You will want to keep your space tidy and organized. Nothing makes a small space feel more restricted than having too much stuff. You don’t need to pack your entire house with you. Sometimes it does more harm than good. Try to refrain from filling your camper walls with tons of pictures. Try one or two paintings or pictures for a taste of home.

We hope you’ve enjoyed these helpful do-it-yourself tips from your Oklahoma City RV dealer!

Independence Day Recipes

Everyone loves celebrating the 4th of July. It means fireworks, great food and wonderful company. Listed here are a couple recipes that are sure the get things fired up this holiday.

Patriotic Pudding Cups

These are perfect for summer. If you love Oreo, you will love this sweet and colorful Patriotic dessert.

  • 3 packages of White Chocolate Pudding 3.3 ounces each
  • 5.5 Cups of milk
  • Blue Summertime Oreos (regulars are fine if you cant find these)
  • Clear Cups for serving
  • Red and Blue gel food coloring
  • Cool Whipped

Crush up your Oreos and spoon a couple of tablespoons into the bottom of your clear cups. Next, make your pudding in different bowls so your food coloring doesn’t mix together. Add your blue food coloring and red food coloring to your pudding mix. Using the gel food coloring makes your colors more vibrant. Add your blue layer of pudding mix over the layer of crushed Oreos. With your second layer, instead of mixing 2 cups of cold milk with your pudding only mix 1.5 cups and add 2 cups of cool whipped dessert topping. This will make your middle layer extra fluffy as well as make it whiter. Finish with your red layer and make as directed by the box. Garnish with more crushed Oreos and refrigerate.

Festive Fruit Parfaits

These are sure to make a bang at your camper this Independence Day!

  • Any of your favorite fresh fruits cut into small pieces
  • 1 package 8oz cream cheese softened
  • ½ cup of frozen limeade concrete thawed
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup cool whip

Clean and slice your favorite fruits such as strawberries and watermelon. In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, limeade and powdered sugar until smooth. Next, fold in your whipped topping nice and slowly. In small glasses or even a bowl, layer your fruits and top with dressing. Serve this immediately or cover and keep it refrigerated up to two hours before serving.

Have a safe and happy July 4th from your Oklahoma City RV dealer!
