Visit Natural Falls State Park

While you’re exploring Oklahoma this summer, don’t pass up the opportunity to visit Natural Falls State Park in your RV. Its fantastical scenery will make you feel like you’re in another world. Located in the Ozark Highlands of Oklahoma in the state’s northeastern corner and sharing a border with Arkansas, the park contains everything from lush forests to gushing waterfalls.

Speaking of waterfalls, Natural Falls State Park is actually home to one of the tallest waterfalls in the state: the eponymous Natural Falls. Natural Falls stands at 77 feet tall and can be reached through the Dripping Springs hiking trail. This is a looped trail that’s only a mile around, so it’s fairly easy for anyone of any fitness level. There are numerous other trails to explore, including the Bear Trail, which is slightly longer and more strenuous. The entire park is 120-acres and is large enough for your visit to take most of a day if you’re not in any rush to leave.

More astute visitors may recognize some of the scenery in the park from the 1974 film Where the Red Fern Grows. The film had several scenes set in the park, including some of its waterfalls. If you’ve got the film handy or can rent it online, it might be a fun idea to watch it the night before you reach the park. The next day, you can keep your eyes peeled for the locations they used in the film.
